On the last Monday in May, we celebrate Memorial Day as a way to honor the men and women who have died in the U.S. military. It began after the Civil War in 1868, when the Union veterans established this day as a time to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. This day has wafted into honoring not only our soldiers who gave their lives for our country, but we honor all the departed by visiting and putting flowers on the graves of our loved ones across the country.
This past week I spent time doing just that. First at the Scribner Cemetery where my Dad, a Korean war veteran is buried, and then at the Calvary Cemetery in Omaha where my father-in-law, and my brother in law, who also served, are both buried. It is beautiful to see the painstaking ways in which family members and friends do their very best to make their place of rest look so honorable and respectful. My appreciation for all those who have fought to protect this great country is hard to put into words, and the gratitude I feel is overwhelming.
Speaking of veterans, I ask you to watch for my upcoming story on Grace Gate Farms. It is a therapy farm for veterans that was started by Bryan and Kirstie Madsen of Lincoln, NE. Through much prayer and fasting, they felt the call to establish this place for veterans to find peace within themselves by working the land and interacting with the animals. I am so excited to see their success in this mission.
I hope this Memorial Day finds all of you reflective on what this day actually means. Let's all give thanks to those who have gone before us and take a moment to honor them.
God bless the United States of America.
Remember to be grateful.....
Until we talk again..............
